The Whys ?
The lifting operations are frequent in our various sites (loading and offloading of materials, transport of persons). The risks inherent in the lifting operations might endanger people's lives.
The increasing level of risk is due to the following factors :
- The multiple lifting operations taking place on the same day risk engendering a loss of vigilance in operation execution ;
- The simultaneous works, especially in the course of serious accidents in the absence of rigorous vigilance and supervision ;
- The crampedness of space in the installations and the offshore meteo conditions render the margin of manoeuvre and control more difficult ;
- A lack of preparation and involvement of qualified and habilitated personnel.
The must do's
During lifting, there is a considerable risk of object falling or collision. The handling zones are exclusively destined for the authorized lifting team.
All the intervening parties involved in a lifting or handling operation must :
- Depending on the nature of the operation, have at their disposal a systematic risk analysis in the form of JSA or HARC, a work permit and a lifting plan approved by the habilitated persons ;
- Install the appropriate beacons and barriers to protect the lifting or handling zone ;
- Systematically check all the handling or lifting equipment to be used while considering the weight and nature of the load before delivering the authorizations ;
- Undertake a safety briefing and an overall verification of the safety conditions ;
- Always make sure the lifting and handling zone is kept clear ; ;
- Make sure the lifting equipment as well as the associated material are certified as per the frequency required by the standards.
