Road Safety

 

The Whys ?

Road accidents made by employees on missions and during home-work-home journeys constitute one of the causes of fatal accidents.

In Tunisia, accidents are often serious. In 2011, 8509 accidents caused 1485 fatalities and 12653 injuries. The main causes of fatal accidents in 2011 were:

  • Exceeding the speed limit, thus causing 32% of the fatalities,
  • Forbidden overtaking and infringing the obligation of driving on the right side, causing 16% of the fatalities,
  • Road crossing, causing 16% of the fatalities,
  • Lapse of vigilance when using the telephone in the course of driving, causing 9% of the fatalities.

In the oil sector, and especially during on-shore activities, road risk also constitutes a cause of serious accidents.

 

The must do's

The following requirements have to be strictly abided by :

  • Being trained in preventive driving and the requirements of standard HSSE-06-02; Road trip management ;
  • Prior checking of kits and safety organs of vehicle, bike, motorbike ;
  • Correct fastening of safety belt ;
  • Wearing helmets by motorbike users ;
  • Not telephoning when driving even with free-hand kits ; not sending or reading a message ;
  • Respecting the authorized maximum speed ;
  • Adapting one's speed to the ambient conditions ;
  • Making sure the passengers abide by the safety instructions ;
  • Respecting break time for journeys lasting more than 2 hours.
