SEREPT was created on December 29, 1931 in Paris.
In the beginning it used to be the Syndicate for the Studies and Research in the field of Oil in Tunisia, with French acronym S.E.R.E.P.T



The Syndicate was launched by three shareholders The Protectorate Government,
The National office of Liquid Fuels and the French   Oil Company.  

 

 

The Syndicate conducted research and drilling activities in the North of Tunisia.

The Syndicate was transformed into a Public Company created on February 18, 1949: Tunisian Company for Oil Research and Exploitation

The Company kept the same SEREPT acronym as the syndicate.

SEREPT became the first company with equal representation between ETAP and SNEAP (50% - 50%) in 1978.

ARCO acquired shares held by SNEAP at SEREPT in 1997 and resold them to Preussag Energie in 2000.

OMV purchased Preussag Energie and has consequently held its shares at SEREPT since 2003
